The city of La Jolla is one of those magical places that really defines San Diego. For years this small town (well it's not so small anymore) was home to a local bunch of surfers, some hang gliders, shore fishermen, a few businessmen a couple of dogs (no kidding!). La Jolla today is "the" destination for those looking for an upscale weekend or weeklong sojourn to the pacific coast.
La Jolla hotelsThe hotels of La Jolla are some of the best hotels found anywhere in San Diego county. You really get the best of both worlds here, as La Jolla is a beach community at heart and a full blown city in reality. Great surfing, sunbathing and sea kayaking all coexist with 5 star hotels, luxury resorts, fine dining and great golf. There is really no other place in San Diego that can offer all this within one city...except La Jolla. Here are a couple of fav haunts we sometimes check out.
Dining and beach walks in La JollaOnce you arrive and check into your hotel, the city of La Jolla really opens up and you have quite the adventure ahead of you. One might choose to head on over to the children's pool to take a look at the sea loins that have made this beach their home. Perhaps its a trip over to the Green Dragon colony and the 12 building that call it home. These retreats, build in 1894 offer a window to a La Jolla long gone, but not forgotten. Maybe a stroll along the beach @ La Jolla shores and below the cliffs at Torrey Pines state reserve is more your style. It's a great way to take in one of the many beautiful sunsets we enjoy here. The Crab Catcher restaurant, with its great views of the shores and coastline to the north is also a good call. As is dinner at Roppongi, the Marine Room or Sushi on the Rock. La Jolla beachesThe beaches of La Jolla are some of the best beaches found anywhere in San Diego. From Bird Rock in the south to Torrey Pines state beach holding down the north end, the beaches of La Jolla are as perfect as one can get. There are, of course many different types of beaches that call La Jolla home. From rocky outcrops to mile-long stretches you can find just about any type of beach here. You can find more information on all the great beaches here on the La Jolla beaches page, but for those who just cannot wait here are the 3 best beaches in La Jolla.
